A MODEST BEGINNING

THE SEED OF AN IDEA

In 2005, the seed of Ryan Porter’s idea took root. While working in construction financing, he had the idea to put a live camera on construction sites so homeowners could watch the progress of their home being built. He quickly realized this type of product didn’t exist, so he approached his colleague, Bob Brenner, with the idea. From this point on, Ryan and Bob began to create a new product and take it to market.

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

STEVE BRINGS THE CLOUD TO CVT

What’s more, Steve brought the cloud to CVT. He created the video management software (VMS) and surveillance command center that powers every CVT Unit and allows clients to manage their cameras and alerts from their smartphone or desktop. He turned a singular live camera management service into a full-blown security system capable of self-diagnosis and communication with the ability to process and store data remotely, all thanks to the edge controller.

RISKS AND REWARDS

ENTERING THE SECURITY SPHERE

In 2015, with V1 of the edge controller under their belt, the partners knew they could make more improvements to prepare the unit for the security sphere. They wanted to make it smarter, more efficient, and even more powerful. With the collaboration of both software and hardware engineers, the D3 Unit was born.

It was time to show off this new and improved product. In 2017, David suggested to Ryan that they enter the International Security Conference (ISC) West trade show in Las Vegas. On the first day of the ISC West trade show, a major big box retailer approached the LVT exhibit, was impressed by the technology, and signed up to have CVT Units on hundreds of their properties.

A MEASURABLE DIFFERENCE

CVT IS MAKING COMMUNITIES SAFER

We proved this through CVT’s ACCESS Taskforce project. Local retailers, government, and police departments worked with SST to collect and share data in order to track and prevent retail crime. The ACCESS Taskforce decreased overall crime in Opelika, Alabama and Paducah, Kentucky. Here are a few stats from the data gathered:
